one of those when canine meets bovine...one is curious, one is apprehensive! with nikki one knows the levels of curiosity or animosity will have their limits. but not so with the other two.

The dog that you see in the blog title

This is the picture of my little dachshund, who i christened Goli. A small dog that shoots off to run like a bullet cannot get a more befitting name. 'Goli' translates from Hindi as pellet (as in pill or tablet) or that which comes out of the barrel of a gun.
Goli is the girl who made me fall in love with dogs very seriously and with a commitment i think i would not to trade off with anything. she opened my eyes to a new world (then) for me of canine intelligence, participation in our lives, responsiveness and without saying anything filled me with a sense of responsibility.
I brought Goli home from a shelter where she was at that time- either abandoned or having lost her way.I always wanted to know who could have abandoned her. never seen a dog so clever, intelligent, possessive and girl-ish. I have a feeling that Goli chose me before I got her. That is how she came towards me- bounding eagerly with excited energy, when i went to pick up a companion dog for another who was ageing in my home. I do hope to write her story someday- possibly as one of the entries on this blog. Goli the politician.

Life has strange journeys and Goli was my little girl for a very small yet significant part of it. I was parted with her in 2005, due to some very painful circumstances. I often wondered whether, like once, I had adopted her from a shelter, did I also not desert her- but at that time I was left with no option. I always cherished her in my heart...there is no proof of that however.

Early this year, I got to learn from the ones who had forcibly kept her with them, instead of giving her to me...that she breathed her last on 30th Sep 2009 ! I didn't even get to know!!

Alas! such is my fate, or such was our love. May she be at peace. Out of her love and pining for her, I had got this entire pack home- one by one- and this blog is dedicated to all my dogs-now and always.
